    The Small Press Network is proud to be delivering the fourth annual Independent Publishing Conference this November. This is the must-attend event for all publishing professionals at any stage of their career.

    The three-day program will commence on Thursday 19 November with an Industry Research Day. Carrying the theme ‘Australian Publishing and Trans-National Cultures’. Academics and researchers from across Australia will present papers on a range of topics, with a focus on how Australian publishing is different to, but also part of international publishing. How is Australian publishing influenced by global trends? What happens when local publishers buck the trend? The keynote speaker will be literary academic, editor and founding publisher of Giramondo Press Ivor Indyk.

    Friday 20 November is the Independent Publishing Conference’s main Trade Day and is a must-attend for anyone in the publishing industry. This year’s program addresses the major challenges and changes facing publishers. Feature sessions will include topics on the State of the Industry, New Digital Publishing Platforms, Marketing to Millennials, Branching out Into Genres and Trends in Book Design.

    A program centered on the Fundamentals of Publishing will run on Saturday 21 November. Covering everything from copyright, ePublishing and eBook pricing strategy, marketing without a budget and working with booksellers, this day in an excellent introduction for newer publishers and a refresher for more established publishers, and is core for anyone wanting to get a better understanding of the challenges of working in the Australian publishing industry.

    The Most Underrated Book Award will be presented at an evening event on Friday 20 November.
